Different payment options are available to different countries and regions. You must be in a country where Etsy operates before you can use Etsy payment either as a buyer or a seller. Etsy is generally not available in the majority of African countries.

For EEA Users

For people who are in the EEA, that is Iceland, Norway,  Liechtenstein, and the EU you will have to authenticate your payment before your purchase can be completed. In doing this, you will be prompted to input the response from your card issuer. This could come in the form of a security question, a one-time password that’s usually a 4 or 6-number passcode.

If you have an Etsy gift card or credit linked with your Etsy account, it is automatically chosen as your mode of payment. You can always uncheck the box and choose to use your card if you do not wish to use your Etsy balance.

Etsy is a great art appreciating community and a great marketplace to buy and sell without any hassle. If you are a lover or collector of unique handmade things then you know where to be. You can choose what payment method and channel you feel works best for you and make seamless transactions, just that Venmo isn’t one of the options you have.

Notwithstanding, you can still use a Venmo debit card to make your payments. As a seller, it is most important to choose a payment channel that is available universally. This will reduce the chances of a payment hassle occurring when your chosen mode of payment is not available in the country where your buyer is located. For buyers who are in countries where Etsy doesn’t work, you can attempt to use a VPN to change your phone or laptop, or desktop’s location.

However, if you do this when trying to check out and you need to fill in a shipping address you will have problems. For this reason, it is better to stick to developer policies and wait till it is available in your country.
